Population
Population maps
[dropcap1]T[/dropcap1]here are some basic demographic issues that have to be understood if the rest of the social landscape is to make sense. In some parts of London people tend to be younger, in others they are older. More babies are born where there are the most young and middle-aged adults of what are no usually London child bearing ages. London pensioners tend to be squeezed out towards the edges of the capital or may prefer to be there. Our maps cannot explain why every pattern exists by they can show the variety that there is and how that variety is changing. We also use other types of graphic such as population pyramids to illustrate change over time and we look at issues of population density and potential as well as age and sex. The changing ratio of men and women at different ages living in different parts of the capital is one of many aspects of the changing social landscape of London that we hope to add maps on in future.
